We know some will not agree, but holding an Ofqual government regulated qualification in damp, mould and condensation, provides recognition and credibility for those that hold the qualification. It also means that those who want to recruit the services of someone with expertise in this area, a qualification will help them in deciding who to appoint.
Now, the qualification awarding body ABBE is allowing recognition to be clearly seen and recognised with the awarding of post nominal letters. Those with the Level 3 award qualification in damp, mould and condensation in buildings, can now place the letters L3AwardDMCB after their name.
The Level 3 award qualification has not been developed to provide a surveying qualification, it has been developed to recognise those with knowledge in the subject of damp mould and condensation. This to include the inspection of buildings along with all the associated issues, to locate problems, ascertain their causes and to develop solutions. Along with the essential elements in reporting such issues and also essential elements in the design and specification of the remedial work.
It has a particular focus around the laws involved in such issues, the understanding and application of standards and guidance of the most authoritative kind, and focusing on the issues of the moment. These are Awaabs Law and moisture issues associated with retrofit.
This is the only Level 3 Award qualification in this subject, and was developed by ABBE working with Professor John Edwards, a Chartered Building Surveyor and leader in this field who first commenced analysing moisture in buildings in 1981. He has developed the two day course and delivers it.
