A standard for the energy efficiency retrofit of non-domestic buildings is now available and we can help you understand it. It means that there is now a standard approach available that emphasises the optimum process and standards to be complied with. This has a special provision for historic buildings, buildings with special protection and those of traditional construction. It details the need for heritage values to be assessed and for heritage impact assessments. Competency requirements are also detailed, and this means that those involved with historic buildings, buildings with special protection and those of traditional construction will require a Level 3 Award qualification in the energy efficiency retrofit of traditionally constructed buildings, achieved by way of a 2-day course. Our course tutor Professor John Edwards, a member of the panel that produced PAS 2038, has been revising our two-day course to include a focus on PAS 2038. In addition, those involved in the design of retrofit to historic buildings, buildings with special protection and those of traditional construction, will have to be a member of a building conservation accreditation or certification scheme.
